Day 33 It was still raining I left my hotel in Tallinn’s old town. The ferry terminal was only 1.3 km away and it took me only a few minutes to reach the terminal, get my boarding card and reach the vehicle waiting lanes. The ferry arrived, but I had to wait a while before getting on board until all vehicles arriving from Helsinki had left the ferry. I was the only one cyclists and the first on board. The crossing of the Gulf of Helsinki takes two hours and I took this opportunity to email my travel blog mailing list and have a lunch.
The ferry arrived in Helsinki at 12.30pm, I left the terminal area and took a cycle way to get rid of the heavy traffic from the ferry. It had stopped raining, but the sky was still covered with dark clouds. My WS host Annette was first awaiting me at 4pm and I had time to cycle around and discover the city.
Annette lives in a quiet street in the centre of Helsinki, just a few steps away from the Senate Square (Senaatintori) and the Cathedral (Tuomiokirkko/Suurkirkko). Annette was very welcoming and made me feel very comfortable in her small flat and she is owns an impressive bike fleet. We took some lunch and later went out to meet a friend. Together we had a long walk through the city, that gave me a good introduction to Helsinki.
Thank you Annette for your kindness and your great hospitality. I hope to see you again and it would be a pleasure to welcome you sometime in Hannover!
